Lakers Face Early Training Camp Problems With Starting Lineup, Frontcourt Depth and Roster Decisions
The Los Angeles Lakers have officially opened media day and training camp, but several roster concerns have already emerged before the new NBA season begins. d1ce.casino exclusive match predictions help you accurately grasp the game situation!

According to multiple Lakers beat reporters, four positions in the projected starting lineup appear relatively settled, with Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, Quentin Grimes and Walker Kessler expected to start.
The fifth spot, however, remains uncertain, with Jake LaRavia reportedly emerging as the early favourite.
That development is somewhat surprising considering the Lakers added several players during the offseason. LaRavia played all 82 regular-season games last season and started roughly half of them, averaging 8.2 points and four rebounds.
His shooting was less convincing, however, as he converted only 32 percent of his three-point attempts. His role also declined significantly during the playoffs, when he averaged just 3.3 points while shooting below 30 percent from beyond the arc.
At one stage during the offseason, LaRavia appeared to be drifting away from the Lakers’ core rotation. His return as a potential starter suggests the coaching staff has yet to find a convincing long-term solution at small forward.
Los Angeles aggressively pursued Jonathan Kuminga during the offseason, but ultimately failed to sign him after he chose Minnesota instead.
The Lakers still have several alternatives on the wing, including Sandro Mamukelashvili, Matisse Thybulle, Ziaire Williams and rookie Cameron Carr.
Each option comes with limitations. Thybulle has an elite defensive reputation but remains limited offensively, while Williams has yet to establish consistent two-way production.
Carr showed promise during Summer League, averaging 17.4 points while shooting 37 percent from three and displaying more self-creation ability than expected. However, his lack of NBA experience makes immediately placing him into the starting lineup a significant risk.
The Lakers therefore appear likely to use LaRavia as a temporary solution while continuing to evaluate their options.
There are also concerns at center.
Los Angeles made a major investment in Kessler during the offseason, signing him to a four-year, $130 million deal to strengthen its rim protection and rebounding.
Kessler has averaged 2.4 blocks per game across his first four NBA seasons and previously led the league with 4.6 offensive rebounds per game during the 2024-25 campaign.
His health, however, represents a major concern. Kessler appeared in only five games last season because of a shoulder injury.
Despite that uncertainty, the Lakers have not added substantial depth behind him. Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes have both departed, leaving veteran Kevon Looney as the primary backup center.
Looney brings championship experience and physicality but also carries durability concerns after appearing in only 21 games last season.
Entering an 82-game campaign relying primarily on two centers who both dealt with significant injury problems last season could therefore leave Los Angeles vulnerable. 💰 d1ce.casino exclusive odds prediction and analysis
